Third plenary meeting in Florence

The third  plenary meeting  of the SAFETeen project took place in Florence on April 23 and 24, 2026. The event was organized by the Regional School Office of Tuscany in collaboration with the project coordinator, the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU).

The meeting brought together representatives from the partner institutions involved in the project, creating an important opportunity to review and discuss the outcomes of the classroom pilot activities carried out in the participating countries. Teachers attending the meeting played a key role in the discussions, sharing their experiences with students and contributing valuable feedback for the development of the project’s pedagogical approach.

A major focus of the meeting was the definition of the “pedagogical model” that will be included in the final version of the SAFETeen Pedagogical Handbook. Participants exchanged ideas and best practices related to road safety education, highlighting the importance of innovative and engaging teaching methodologies for secondary school students.

The consortium also discussed the educational implementation of the two digital tools developed within the project: the Virtual Reality (VR) Tool and the emergency application. Both tools are currently being tested in classrooms as part of educational activities with students, and the feedback gathered during the pilot phase will contribute to their further improvement.

As part of the meeting programme, participants visited “Vigilandia,” the road safety education center managed by the Florence Municipal Police. The visit offered a valuable opportunity to observe practical road safety education activities and to engage in discussions with police officers and educators working in the field.

The exchange between secondary school teachers, university researchers, representatives of Regional School Authorities, and municipal police professionals fostered a meaningful European-level dialogue on road safety education programmes and practices implemented across different countries.

The Florence meeting marked another important milestone for the SAFETeen project, strengthening collaboration among partners and supporting the development of innovative educational tools and methodologies aimed at promoting road safety awareness among young people.
